Spatial Sampler XR is an extension of the instrument series of the Synekine Project. Just as a sampler is an empty keyboard filled with sounds, Spatial Sampler XR utilizes gesture recognition to transform the surrounding physical space into a key zone for indexing, placing, and playing back samples. With Spatial Sampler XR, the musician distributes sound through gestures around them, creating a spatialized and interactive sonic scene. Movement connects time (sound) and space. Thus, Spatial Sampler XR is suitable for movement artists and various applications.
This workshop initially introduces the Synekine Project, from which the concept of Spatial Sampling is derived. The technical configuration is then explained, along with the various play modes. Finally, examples of performative situations provide insights into this new musical instrument.
